The plugin works without any issues, even if you do not activate it. you can ignore the activation message.

I have only configured SMTP server details!

Yes you have to - if your SMTP needs authenticated login. Its is the same as your POP3 or IMAP username and password for that email account. But the screenshot you've posted is not related to SMTP authentication. Try reinstaing the pugin. The error mosty seems due caching pugin or some other plugin. Try deactivating a plugins and see if you get the error. if not then start activating pugins one by one - this way you can pinpoint which plugin is causing the issue.

If that doesnt work - its mosty the Theme or Hosting server. You can deactivate your current theme and switch to TwentyTwenty theme and check again.
