njal.la are scammers and it's disgusting seeing people promoting and defending them. They stole a completely legal domain which my customer later got back, and the whole thing could have been avoided if people would quit falsely promoting them
The solution for domain registration is very simple: You look at sites that are similar to what you want to do, and pick a couple that have been around the longest, and do a WHOIS query to see who their registrar is. Then use that registrar because it is proven to work and not cause issues for the sites.

Legal websites are fine, until they became bigger, .to is not safe even for legal projects that are targeted for freedom of speech.
