HappyFiles is probably far more lightweight, as it's only function is extending the capabilities of your media library. As far as I can see, Wicked Folders does more than that. So, all in all it's a matter of usecase, I'd say.

A feature I'm looking for is a capability to automatically update the URL for any attached file, wherever it moved to.. I know MEDIA LIBRARY FOLDERS does exactly that, but I'm looking for any alternative..

That's weird. I use it on pretty much all my sites and I got no issues at all.

I was using Filebird and it was good, but have switched to Happy Files now. Doesn't seem slow.

How did you find out it was slowing down your install?
