Related with Language selection, this could be a problem regarding the script itself since previous version doesn't show that problem, even, I had to comment that line in order to hide the selection, since our website is only for one language.

Whit the second issue, if you want, I may send you the file name and the file route in order you know what line you need to change and deactivate the text.

Go in to your db, turn off from there, never installed this, but bet that under the settings table, there is an option to en-disable... Try that.
